OLIVER!

Directed by Trent Boyum

Oliver

Consider yourself at home with Lionel Bart's classic musical based on the Charles Dickens novel, "Oliver Twist." This Tony and Olivier Award-winning show is one of the few musicals to win an Academy Award for Best Picture and is widely hailed as a true theatrical masterpiece by actors and audience members alike. Songs include: 'Where is Love, Consider Yourself, I'd Do Anything, As Long as He Needs Me' and of course the title song 'Oliver!'

The streets of Victorian England come to life as Oliver, a malnourished orphan in a workhouse, becomes the neglected apprentice of an undertaker. Oliver escapes to London and finds acceptance amongst a group of petty thieves and pickpockets led by the elderly Fagin. When Oliver is captured for a theft that he did not commit, the benevolent victim, Mrs. Brownlow takes him in. Fearing the safety of his hideout, Fagin employs the sinister Bill Sikes and the sympathetic Nancy to kidnap him back, threatening Oliver’s chances of discovering the true love of a family.

Audience Guidelines:
OLIVER! is recommended for adults and mature youth.
The classic Oliver Twist was written by Charles Dickens in 1838. The musical adaption stays true to the original time period and reflects the darkness of the era. The script contains some adult themes including depictions of domestic abuse; on stage violent acts and references to violence; pantomiming alcohol use; and references to 1800’s child slavery. Stage effects include use of water-based haze and fog, and strobe lights. Vintage prop firearms and gunshot noises will be used.
